PLM Standby

Overview

Ilesfay® PLM Standby ensures that a functioning PLM application environment is always available.  While it is clearly important to have a method for conducting regular data and file backups, Ilesfay has taken the recovery capability one step further and offers a Cloud-ready Standby™ service that provides full recoverability of all PLM-related data and the PLM application environment.

  • Cloud-ready Standby provides full application recoverability.
  • Services can be configured on a global basis or for individual sites, depending on the application and usage requirements.
  • Incremental to PLM Replication and PLM Backup services, PLM Standby can be configured for a subset of the environment that is serviced by the other Ilesfay solutions.

Benefits

No Capital Investment Required

By leveraging Amazon AWS cloud infrastructure, PLM Standby is provided as an infrastructure service (i.e., IaaS), which means no hardware purchase, install, or maintenance is required for setup.

Reduced Implementation Effort

The PLM Standby solution is instantly configured via point-and-click interface and by working with Ilesfay implementation personnel to ensure a fully recoverable application environment exists for each supported location.

Continuous Recoverability

Amazon AWS cloud services mean that the PLM Standby capability is constantly managed by Ilesfay and AWS operations support personnel, which ensures that recoverability of the application environment is always ready.

Features & Functions

All PLM Backup features & functions are automatically inherited by PLM Standby. PLM Standby also offers:

PLM Application Standby

Ilesfay provides a standby version of the PLM application by implementing the mirrored environment as an AWS cloud-enabled service.

Point-In-Time Database Snapshots

PLM Standby accounts for point-in-time database (e.g., Oracle, SLQ Server) recoverability and inclusion in the PLM Standby services.

Implementation & Management Assistance

Ilesfay provides implementation and management assistance to ensure that a fully available PLM Standby system is configured and ready to assume full operation.

Disaster Recovery Testing

Ilesfay will participate as an active member of the recovery testing team during any failover and recovery testing.

Examples

Backup But No Recoverability

All systems are routinely backed-up, but a full recovery option, in the case of a complete loss of the application site, has not been architected.

It is not uncommon for PLM disaster recovery plans to stop well short of a full recoverability solution, because creating a solution that provides complete recoverability requires the purchase of completely redundant hardware and other infrastructure.  By using the Ilesfay PLM Standby solution, however, the need to purchase completely redundant systems is eliminated.

Single-Site PLM Applications

Smaller manufacturers or engineering design firms may only have a single PLM site, but the PLM system is mission-critical and recoverability a must

Ilesfay’s focused solution for the PLM application environment means that PLM Standby is perfect for a company with a single vault/single site implementation.  Ilesfay PLM Standby is easy to administer and requires a very small administration function to provide full application recoverability.

Pricing

Pricing for Ilesfay PLM Standby is defined by two parameters:

  1. Number of sites/vaults participating in the PLM Standby – a per site/vault fee.
  2. Amount of data managed within the PLM Replication network.

Site/server and data fees are invoiced on a monthly basis.  Annual usage plans can be developed to help eliminate monthly variations, which may address fluctuating budget concerns.
